Choose one common unit
Measure every stage in the same unit, such as hay strands per minute. If a recipe converts units, convert rates before comparing them.
Enter observed rates
Add up to six stages with their measured capacities. Zero means the line is stopped; a blank field is unknown and must be filled.
Use the bottleneck estimate
The lowest stage rate is the serial-line capacity under steady-state assumptions. An upgraded non-bottleneck stage may not improve total output.
